Consular Services

The consular services provided are based on the following principles: equality of treatment, impartiality, efficiency and transparency.

Please note that consular offices can issue the registry certificates listed in the form, valid only abroad or to be shown in Italy to private individuals, to citizens whose registration in AIRE and in the consular registry has already been completed: consular registration certificate/family registry certificate; consular registration certificate; civil status certificate; Italian citizenship certificate; certificate of “same person” or “concordance”.
The remaining certificates can only be issued by the municipality or, for those who have a digital identity, downloaded free of charge online. For info Anpr: certificati anagrafici online e gratuiti per i cittadini | Ministero dell‘Interno.

Consulates guarantee assistance to all Italian nationals in case of violation of their fundamental rights and of limitation or loss of their personal freedom. Moreover, they help them in cases of emergency, in their search for family members, for inheritance matters abroad and for the repatriation of human remains to Italy.

REGISTRATION OF BIRTH OF MINOR CHILDREN

    • Case A) The minor does not possess, nor can obtain, another citizenship, i.e., is exclusively an Italian citizen: required documentation
    • Case B) he parent, an Italian citizen from birth, resided in Italy for at least 2 consecutive years before the child’s date of birth, or the parent acquired Italian citizenship (e.g., by naturalization, etc.) and resided in Italy after acquiring citizenship for at least 2 consecutive years before the child’s date of birth: required documentation
    • Case C) At the time of the minor’s birth, a parent or a grandparent possessed (or possessed at the time of death) exclusively Italian citizenship: required documentation
    • Case D) Acquisition of citizenship by LEGAL ENTITLEMENT: if the minor does not fall under one of the categories listed above (CASE A, CASE B, CASE C), they are not “automatically Italian.” However, minor children of at least one parent who is an ITALIAN CITIZEN BY BIRTH (iure sanguinis) may meet the requirements for acquiring citizenship by legal entitlement (Art. 4, paragraph 1-bis, Law 05.02.1992, no. 91 and Art. 1, paragraph 1-ter, Decree-Law 36/2025): required documentation
