A red bench installed at the Consulate General of Italy in Johannesburg as a symbol of the fight against gender based violence.

panchina rossa.

As highlighted by Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani on the occasion of the launch of the initiative, “the red bench is a symbol, the empty place left in society by a woman victim of femicide: we must sit on those benches and give our support to women, against violence but also against simple discrimination”.

The Consul General Emanuela Curnis recalled that Italy has long been on the front line, at a national and international level, to prevent and combat all forms of violence and discrimination against women, promote gender equality and women’s empowerment, strengthen the role of women and of girls in conflict prevention and mediation (including through the creation of the Mediterranean Women Mediators Network and the Global Alliance of Regional Women Mediator Networks) and in responding to climate change.
