Minors must submit an application form (click here) signed by a person exercising permanent or temporary parental authority or by a legal guardian.
In addition to the checklist for the selected category of Visa, applicants under the age of 18 must submit the following documents:
1. DECLARATION OF CONSENT TO TRAVEL ABROAD signed by both PARENTS. Please fill this form: Parental-consent-letter .
Please be advised that this form must be signed in person with the duly authorized VFS Global Agent or Commissioner of Oaths as a witness.
Please, note:
- if one or both parents do not appear in person on the application day, a parental consent witnessed by a Commissioner of Oaths is mandatory.
- if the parents live abroad, the consent must be notarised by the Italian Consulate of their country of residence. This also applies when parents living abroad nominate a guardian.
- In the event that a parent travels with a minor without the consent or against the will of the other parent, proof of exclusive parental authority over that minor (established by law by a judge or the relevant competent authority, according to the national legislation of the country in which the minor resides) or a circumstance has arisen for which a judge has issued an authorization for such travel.
2. Unabridged Birth Certificate.
3. Copies of parent’s passports or ID signed by commissioner of Oaths.
4. If the minor is travelling without parents, attach a copy of the Passport of the guardian who will travel or stay in Italy with the minor.
5.Proof that the Guardian or the parents have already a VISA if they are not applying at the same time of the minor (Attached copy of the VISA issued by a Schengen country).
6. Recent (not older than 1 month) original school attendance letter duly signed by the Headmaster from the School addressed to the Italian Consulate General in Johannesburg;
7. In case of death of one of the parents, copy of the certificate of Death.
PLEASE NOTE: Children under the age of six are exempt from paying for a visa. The exemption is optional for children between the ages of six and 18.
*SPORT VISA FOR MINORS
The work visa for foreign athletes is issued, naturally always in the presence of the CONI’s nominative declaration of consent, also for the performance of sports activities at amateur clubs. If the athlete is a minor, in addition to the consent to travel abroad from the person exercising parental authority, which is mandatory for all types of entry of minors into the national territory, the declaration of consent must also be accompanied by an authorization issued by the competent DTL (Territorial Labor Directorate).
*STUDY VISA FOR MINORS
Study visas for foreign minors, provided that the necessary requirements are met, are available in the following two cases:
- Minors over the age of 14 participating in exchange programs or cultural initiatives to attend national state or equivalent secondary schools or academic institutions, which have obtained the prior and explicit approval of the competent Italian Ministers. The minor’s enrollment in such programs shall be documented and verified.
- Minors over the age of 15, for attendance at national state or equivalent institutions or academic institutions, provided that the following are verified:
- The consistency of the courses to be taken in Italy with the education acquired in the country of origin.
- The school program meets the actual educational and cultural needs of the minor.
- The existence of adequate protection measures will be assessed by the Consulate, taking into account the best interests of the child, on the basis of documented and verified guarantees regarding the effective and constant custody and protection of the child during the requested stay.
- In both cases, as with any visa application concerning minors, it is necessary to obtain, in accordance with the regulations in force in the country of residence, the consent to travel signed by each of the persons exercising parental authority who are not accompanying the minor on the trip, or in their absence, by the legal guardian (Art. 3, D.I. 850/2011).
