ATTENTION!<\/strong> This procedure is intended for adult applicants<\/strong> who wish to obtain Italian citizenship jure sanguinis<\/em>; for the registration of minors, please consult the dedicated section of the Civil Registry Office: Register a birth \u2013 Minors.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Under the new Law No. 91 of 1992, anyone born abroad<\/strong> to an Italian citizen parent is not automatically<\/strong> an Italian citizen; they are considered a citizen only if at least one of the following conditions applies<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

a) the Italian citizen parent has resided in Italy for at least 2 consecutive years<\/strong> after acquiring Italian citizenship and before the date of the child\u2019s birth.
Residence in Italy prior to acquiring Italian citizenship, as well as the residence in Italy of the foreign parent, is not relevant<\/p>\n

b) a parent or grandparent holds \u2013 or held at the time of their death \u2013 exclusively Italian citizenship<\/strong>.
Self-declarations regarding the non-possession of other citizenships are not accepted.<\/p>\n

Procedure<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

The application for recognition of citizenship by descent must be submitted at the applicant\u2019s place of residence. On the day of the appointment, the applicant must submit all original documents, duly legalized and translated into Italian.<\/p>\n

The Office reserves the right to request further evidence and supporting documentation after evaluating the case. The original documents submitted will not be returned and do not expire, regardless of the date indicated by the issuing authorities.<\/p>\n

Residents within this consular jurisdiction whose family members have already obtained recognition of citizenship at this Consulate General are invited to contact the Citizenship Office (consolare.johannesburg@esteri.it<\/a>) one month before their appointment, specifying their personal details and those of the family member(s) already recognized as Italian<\/strong>. In such cases, applicants may submit photocopies of all originals already in our possession but must provide the originals of all other documents required for the reconstruction.<\/p>\n

Si fa presente che ogni appuntamento \u00e8 individuale; di conseguenza ogni richiedente dovr\u00e0 prenotare il proprio appuntamento.<\/p>\n

Dieci giorni prima dell\u2019appuntamento, il richiedente ricever\u00e0 una mail con la richiesta di conferma dell\u2019appuntamento stesso<\/strong>.\u00a0La mancata riconferma comporter\u00e0 la cancellazione automatica dell\u2019appuntamento da parte del sistema.<\/strong><\/p>\n

PAGAMENTO<\/strong><\/p>\n

Le istanze di cittadinanza iure sanguinis sono soggette al pagamento di 600 EURO (al tasso di cambio disponibile sulle Tariffe consolari <\/a>). Il pagamento deve essere effettuato in Rand con debit card il giorno dell\u2019appuntamento.
