VISA FOR FAMILY REUNIFICATION

You should lodge your application when you have all the required documents as detailed in the checklist: FAMILY REASON – NATIONAL VISA

The family reunification visa allows entrance in Italy to:

A. Spouses, if not legally separated and not under 18 years of age;

B. Civil partners;

C. Unmarried children under 18 years of age (on application submission), including children of the spouse and children born out of wedlock, provided that the other parent (if there is another parent), has given his/her consent;

D. Dependent children over 18, if they are unable to support their indispensable necessities of life because of their health conditions entailing total disability;

E. Dependent parents:

a. if they have no other descendants in their country of origin or relatives who can support them;
b. if they are over 65 and other descendants in their country of origin or relatives cannot support them for serious and documented health reasons.
All documents must be printed out and presented in original plus a photocopy where required. Applicants are required to appear in person at all times. Applicants must provide:

Documents and forms :

  • Entry visa application form(View)
  • recent passport-size photograph
  • valid travel document whose expiry date is three months longer than that of the visa requested
  • Nulla osta (authorisation) from the relevant Sportello Unico (One-Stop Shop)
  • in the case of minor children, consent to the issue of the visas signed by the other parent
  • documentation proving the status of family member or spouse of the foreign citizen resident in Italy

1) Duly completed application form [D National long stay visa application forme];

2) Valid passport or travel document (original plus one photocopy), valid at least 3 months and with at least two blank pages. The passport will be kept and returned with the visa, if approved;

3) Valid SA Residence Permit (original plus one photocopy);

4) “Nulla Osta” (Entry Clearance) issued no more than 6 months earlier by the competent “Sportello Unico” (Unified Immigration Desk);

5) Proof of relationship: marriage/civil partnership/birth certificate (original plus one photocopy). Please, note:

a. marriage/civil partnership certificates older than 6 months will NOT be accepted;

b. certificates issued by a foreign authority other than the South African authority, MUST be translated in English or Italian and legalised by the Italian Consular Office of the issuing Country OR by the Consular Authority in South Africa of the issuing Country;

c. certificates issued by one of the Schengen countries will be accepted only if multilingual.

d. those applying for permanent residency in Italy through marriage to an Italian citizen must register their marriage at the Consulate General of Italy in London before applying for the visa;

6) Residence card with at least 1 year validity or long-term resident’s EU residence permit of the family member in Italy (original plus one photocopy), alongside with a declaration requesting the presence of the family member in Italy and swearing to be in possession of the requisites foreseen by the law;

Once in Italy, they must register themselves with the local Anagrafe (Registry Office) and apply for a residence card at the relevant Questura within 8 working days from their arrival.

Citizens of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, Yemen and Travel Documents holders (with the three letters code XXA or XXB appearing in the ICAO) need to provide full names of mother and father and it must result from a birth certificate or Consular declaration.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT, AT THE TIME OF YOUR APPOINTMENT, YOUR APPLICATION WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED UNLESS PRESENTED WITH ALL REQUIRED DOCUMENTS. IF ALL THE FILES LISTED ABOVE ARE NOT PRESENTED, THE APPLICANT WILL HAVE TO RESCHEDULE A NEW APPOINTMENT.

PLEASE NOTE

Family members of an Italian or EU citizen do not need the Nulla Osta (Entry Clearance). For stays over 90 days, EU family members need to apply for a National Visa submitting the documents listed in the EU family members’ section.
