Law No. 379 of December 14, 2000, provides for the recognition of Italian citizenship in favor of persons born and residing in the territories of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire and their descendants who meet the necessary requirements.
The deadline for accepting Law 379/2000 expired on 12/19/2010.
Law No. 124 of March 8, 2006, provides for the recognition of Italian citizenship for compatriots who have lost it due to having resided from 1940 to 1947 in Istria, Rijeka and Dalmatia.
Recognition of Italian citizenship under special laws configures an acquisition by benefit of law: it is therefore not possible for the citizen parent to make the declaration of intent to acquire citizenship for the benefit of the minor child provided for in Article 4, paragraph 1-bis, of Law No. 91/1992, since the recognized parent is not an Italian citizen by birth.
