Please be advised that STARTING FROM SUNDAY 25 MAY 2025, voters who have not yet received the electoral package for the postal vote for the abrogative referendums of 8 and 9 June at their address of residence can request a DUPLICATE from this Consulate General of Italy in Johannesburg.
The request for a duplicate can be presented in person at the Consular Office or sent by post, via ordinary email consgenjohannesburg.elettorale@esteri.it or via certified email con.johannesburg@cert.esteri.it
The request – which can be drawn up using the form available here – must be accompanied by a valid identification document.
Voters who request a duplicate of the electoral package must declare that they are aware of the criminal liability resulting from the double vote, provided for by art. 18, paragraph 2, of Law 459/2001, according to which: “Anyone who, on the occasion of elections to the Chambers and referendums, votes both by correspondence and in the polling station of last registration in Italy, or votes more than once by correspondence is punished with imprisonment from one to three years and a fine from 52 euros to 258 euros”.
After carrying out the appropriate checks, this Consulate General of Italy in Johannesburg will provide the necessary instructions to interested parties for the issuing of the duplicate. The duplicate may be sent to the residential address of the requesting voter (if there is time to receive the package) or issued in person, during the opening hours of the Consular Office (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: from 09.00 to 11.30 and Monday from 14.00 to 16.00).
Please note that this Office, exclusively for the issuing of duplicates of the electoral packages, will also observe the following extraordinary opening hours to the public:
Saturday 31 May and Sunday 1 June from 10:00 to 14:00.
Finally, please note that the pre-paid envelopes containing the voted ballots must reach this Consulate General of Italy in Johannesburg no later than 16:00 on Thursday 5 June 2025.
