New legislative measures on citizenship

On March 28, the Council of Ministers adopted a package of legislative measures on citizenship, with the aim of enhancing the effective link between Italy and the citizen abroad, as per link below:
Pending the definitive entry into force of the relevant provisions, the following are immediately suspended:
a) the setting of new appointments for the reception of applications for citizenship recognition;
b) the reception of new applications for citizenship recognition;
c) any citizenship recognition following “reconstruction”;
d) any request for transcription of birth certificates (including those relating to minors presented as an update of the registry and civil status position of citizen parents already registered).
Citizens formally and legitimately recognized until March 27, 2025 will be able to continue to receive normal consular services.
