II Italian Design Day

                                                                             

On the occasion of the second Edition of Italian Design Day, a global initiative in collaboration with Triennale Milan aiming at promoting Italian design, in line with the theme of the Triennale 22nd International Exhibition : A Broken Nature, Design takes on human survival, the Consulate General of Italy in Johannesburg in collaboration with Domus Africa and the Italian Cultural Institute in Pretoria has organized on the 9th of March 2018 at Turbine Hall (Johannesburg) a panel discussion entitled: Cities and Regions resilience. The Italy-SADC parallax.

The objective is to generate, based on the Italian and South African experiences, a reflection on the challenges deriving from the urbanization process in the African continent, in view of promoting urban planning policies that can confront the problems of developing great urban centres (revitalization of dismissed industrial areas, reconversion of neglected urban centres, infrastructural development, growth and integration of suburban areas). All the above with the aim of maintaining and utilizing the existing architectural wealth, the environmental resources and the respect for the territory.

The panellists will be: Jean Pierre de la Porte (Johannesburg) – Editor Domus Africa; Moleta Mosienyane (Gaborone) –Architect & Urban PlannerFounder MPI Botswana; Andrea Zamboni (Reggio Emilia) – Architect co-Founder ZAACo-Editor Domus Africa; Jane Da Mosto (Venezia) – Enviromentalist. Moderator: Anton Comrie (Johannesburg) – Architect GREENinc Landscape Architecture.
