Webinar “Travel to Italy: a tailor-made journey for the Southern African traveler”

Enit virtually brings Italy to the world with the webinar “Travel to Italy: a tailor-made journey for the Southern African traveler” dedicated to tour operators and the South African specialized press to provide detailed information and updates on tourism services and products and to promote our country. The event, scheduled for December 4th at 11 am (10 am Italian time), is organized by ENIT and the Italian Embassy in Pretoria, also in collaboration with local authorities with the aim of raising awareness, attention and passion towards Italy.

The webinar foresees the participation of the Italian Regions and Autonomous Provinces with targeted interventions and question and answer sessions on transport and connections, use of accommodation facilities, destinations and tourist services. The #ViaggioinItalia meetings are dedicated to the Regions, operators and stakeholders of Italian tourism, focus on specific markets and are broadcast in live streaming – or delayed in the case of overlaps – on the Facebook page of ENIT – Agenzia Nazionale del Turismo. “Italy and made in Italy continue to amaze the world, even in the current historical moment, which has accelerated awareness towards the development of a tourism with value, eco-sustainable and slow. Enit, the National Tourism Agency – together with the Italian diplomatic missions – continues in its role of enhancement and positioning of the Peninsula with its 28 offices in the world that record and reinforce the desire for Italy in foreign travellers. Enit aims to create a tourism of value, able to combine sustainability with quality thanks to the Italian lifestyle that places Italy in first place in Europe for non-European tourism flows” declared the Enit president Giorgio Palmucci who will be present at the webinar.

The Ambassador of Italy to South Africa Paolo Cuculi said: “The Embassy of Italy in Pretoria, in the context of initiatives aimed at promoting the relaunch of strategic sectors of the Italian economy – including tourism – identified by the “Pact for Export”, is committed to enhancing and promoting Italy and its excellences in South Africa and in the other countries under our jurisdiction (Namibia, Madagascar, Lesotho, Mauritius), working especially on the high level of complementarity between the Italian and South African economies. Thanks also to the presence of a large and well-integrated Italian community, our country and its culture are widely known and appreciated. The common goal of the Embassy and ENIT is to create new opportunities for relaunching tourism towards Italy, also advertising regions and destinations traditionally less known in this market. To this end, two promotional videos are being produced in which South African bloggers and influencers will talk to the public about their passion for Italy, while 20 compatriots residing in South Africa, representing all 20 Regions, will travel through their memories and ties to their culinary traditions of the respective cities of origin to discover the “tourism of the roots”. The participation in the event also by the Consulate General of South Africa in Milan and by the South African Tourism Promotion Agency will strengthen the partnership between the two countries, with a view to increase their respective tourist flows.”

Tourist flows from South Africa to Italy were growing in 2019 compared to 2018: arrivals, over 110 thousand, grew by + 1.1%, while attendances (understood as the number of nights spent) are about 315 thousand, up by 4.0%. The Italian regions that have been the preferred destination of South African tourists (about 55% of the total) are: Veneto with 65.7 thousand presences (+ 6.6% on 2018), Lazio with 59.2 thousand (+ 9.1%) and Lombardy with 48.1 thousand (+ 4.1%). Cultural holiday is the main motivation for travel to our country and represents 54.0% of expenditure (8.8 million euros) out of a total of 16.4 million euros in 2019.
