Voters with a different temporary residence at the time of the General Election

PRESS RELEASE

Voters who reside in Italy but are temporarily abroad.

Italian voters who reside in Italy but are temporarily abroad for work, study or medical reasons for a period of at least three months, during which the General Election falls, as well as their family members living with them, may participate to the vote by correspondence organized by the Italian consular offices (law 459 of 27 December 2001, paragraph 1 of article 4-bis), and receive their voting papers at their address abroad (outside of Italy).

To participate in the vote abroad, these voters must – by January 31, 2018 – send their Municipality of residence a request – option form. It is possible to revoke the option within the same deadline.
Please note that the option is valid only for the vote to which it refers (in this case, for voting on March 4, 2018).

The option form can be sent by post, fax, e-mail or hand delivered by anyone to the Municipality of residence.

The declaration of option must be accompanied by a copy of a valid ID document, and must in any case contain the foreign postal address to which the electoral envelope is to be sent, the relevant Consular Office and a declaration attesting the voter has the requirements to vote by correspondence (that is to say that you are – for work, study or medical reasons – for a period of at least three months in a foreign country where you are not permanently resident, or you are a family member of a citizen who is in the aforementioned conditions).
The declaration must be made in accordance with articles 46 and 47 of the Decree of the President of the Republic of 28 December 2000, n. 445 (consolidated text of the legislative and regulatory provisions on administrative documentation), and the voter needs to state that he/she is aware of the criminal charges in case of false declarations (Article 76 of the aforementioned Presidential Decree 445/2000).

Voters temporarily in another Consular jurisdiction

Voters who are registered with AIRE (residing outside of Italy) and will during the election be temporarily residing in a different Consular District may send a request to their Consulate of registration, attaching their identity document, asking to vote at the Consulate of temporary residence. A full and valid postal address must be included.
The request must reach the Consulate at which the voter is regularly registered by 31 January 2018.
