Voting in Italy - Deadlines

The General Election will take place in Italy on 4 March 2018.
If you are in Italy on that date and wish to vote in Italy you need to send your Option form (see below) by 8 January 2018.

Voting by mail - deadlines

If you reside abroad (outside of Italy) your voting papers will be mailed to you. Mailing deadline: 14 February.
If you haven't received your voting papers by 18 February you may apply for a duplicate to be sent or collected at the Consulate.
The voted papers need to be returned to the Consulate by post or by hand by 1 March 2018 so that they can be sent to Italy.
Please be aware that voting is secret, you may not let anyone vote in your place. Please make sure you keep your voting papers safe and private before returning them to the Consulate.

Voters with a different temporary residence at the time of the General Election

a. Voters who reside in Italy but for specific reasons will be away from Italy during the General Election may send a request by 31 January 2018 to their Municipality of residence requesting to vote by mail in a different country - more information

b. Voters who are registered with a Consulate but will be in a different Consular jurisdiction at the time of voting may send a request to their Consulate of registration by 31 January 2018 to vote by mail at their temporary residence- more information.

POLITICAL ELECTIONS 2018 - Special opening hours to the public.

In order to facilitate voting operations, the Consulate General of Italy (Consolato Generale d'Italia Johannesburg - Sud Africa) will be open to the public on the following dates:

 

- Wednesday 21 February from 09.00 am to 11.30 pm

- Saturday 24 February from 09.30 am to 15.30 pm

- Sunday 25 February from 09.30 am to 15.30 pm

- Wednesday 28 February from 09.00 am to 11.30 pm

Please note that only electoral matters will be dealth with on the above dates.

POLITICAL ELECTIONS 2018 – Additional opening hours for electoral purposes

Should any voter not receive the ballot papers by Sunday 18th February, they must contact this Consulate General in order to request a duplicate.

This Consulate General will be open to the public on Saturday 24th February and Sunday 25th February 2018 from 9,30 hrs to 15,30 hrs. exclusively to facilitate the issuing of duplicates.

02.01.2018 On December 29, 2017 the decree to call for the General Election was issued, the date of which will be March 4, 2018. The new deadline for opting to vote in Italy is 8 January 2018.
