Minors (infants) born in South Africa with unregistered birth certificates

Minors (infants) born in South Africa who are not registered in the Consulate’s database and do not have a transcribed birth certificate.

For new-borns, in order to obtain a passport, it is necessary to register the birth in the Italian town of reference, at the same time the request for the passport can be issued.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

The documentation required for the issue of a passport to minors (infants) born in South Africa not yet registered in the Consulate’s database and whose birth certificate hasn’t been transcribed yet, is as follows:

 

1. Request for transcription of the original birth certificate (Full Birth Certificate) with Apostille and Italian translation. WE INFORM BEFOREHAND THAT THE CERTIFICATE WILL NOT BE RETURNED.

1a. The Full Birth Certificate requires the Registrar of births, deaths and marriages. For information on the procedure and the local reference office visit: www.home-affairs.go.za ;

1.b. The Apostille is placed on the back of the original birth certificate and is requested from: Department of International, Relations and Cooperation. For information on the procedure, visit the website: www.dirco.go.za/consular/legalitation ;

 

2. Passport form (click here) for the issue of a passport to minors, must be duly completed and signed by both parents or by one of them with the consent of the other released separately (click here for the consent form). In the event that one of the parents is not a citizen of the European Union, the parent is required to appear in person, with a valid identity document, to sign the aforementioned consent form. The signature must be authenticated by an official of the Consulate General and is subject to payment;

 

3. Photocopies of both identification documents with pictures and parents' signature;

 

4. Two identical, frontal and colour passport pictures with white background of size 35x45 mm must be handed in. The face must occupy about 70% of the entire picture (see photograph guidelines);

 

5. Payment in cash (RAND) or debit card of the amount corresponding to the current exchange rate in Euro.
