Registry of Italians living abroad (AIRE)
Law no. 470 of 27 October 1988, states that Italian citizens transferring their residency abroad, from an Italian town hall, must register with AIRE (register for Italian nationals resident abroad) within ninety days of immigrating..
How to register with AIRE
To register with AIRE, fill in the registration form available on FastIt (one form each for every adult family member residing at the same address) enclosing copies of the following documents:
1. Valid Italian passport of every member of the family who is an Italian citizen;
2. Italian identity card (even if it has expired), only if in possession of one;
3. Proof of residency in this consular district. Provide one of the following documents: Australian driver’s license, telephone/electricity bill, bank statement or letter from your bank or insurance company etc. The document must be in the name of the applicant and/or a member of the applicant’s family. Please ensure that the address on the proof of residence document is the same as the address indicated on the registration form.
N.B. Italian citizens resident abroad, must notify this Consulate General of any change of address by completing the form available on FastIt, enclosing a proof of residence document (see previous point 3) as well as a copy of an ID document. One form for each Italian adult family member residing at the same address must be sent.
